MT5 brokerage cost covers far more than the platform licence. Company formation, regulatory work, hosting, liquidity connections, CRM, payments and people all need funding before the business can operate reliably.
There is no useful universal price without knowing the jurisdiction, products, client markets and operating model. A better starting point is to separate what you will spend from what you must keep available as capital or collateral. Then compare suppliers against the same scope.
MT5 Brokerage Cost: Setup Fees and Recurring Charges
Use this list when requesting quotations. “Possible” means the contract needs checking, not that the item is free.
| Item | Initial charge | Recurring charge |
|---|---|---|
| Company formation | Registration and professional fees | Annual company maintenance |
| Financial licensing | Application and advisory fees | Regulatory fees, audit and compliance |
| MT5 | Charges set by contract; technical setup | Platform licence and agreed support |
| Server hosting | Possible deployment charge | Compute, storage and network |
| Bridge or Gateway | Possible activation and integration | Applicable licence, connection or volume fees |
| Liquidity provider | Possible onboarding fee | Trading charges and contractual minimums |
| CRM/back office | Setup, integration and customisation | Subscription and usage charges |
| KYC/AML | Possible integration charge | Verification, screening and monitoring |
| Payments | Possible onboarding and integration | Processing, settlement and other fees |
| Technical maintenance | Possible onboarding | Agreed service and additional work |
Capital and collateral belong in a separate funding schedule. Neither should be hidden inside “setup fees.”
MT5 Main Label Licensing and Setup
Separate MetaQuotes licensing fees from technology provider setup fees. The first pays for software rights under the platform contract; the second covers agreed implementation work.
That work may include server deployment, administrator permissions, Groups, Symbols, margin and commission settings, integrations, testing and handover. Ask for deliverables rather than an unexplained “installation” charge.
MetaQuotes describes licence tiers with different account capacities and components on its MT5 broker platform page. Use its latest written quotation, eligibility requirements and contract for your application. A consultant’s proposal cannot guarantee approval.
Plan around the licensing arrangement confirmed for your applicant entity, with clear contractual rights and administrator access.
Company Formation and Regulatory Licensing
Company registration is not a financial licence. A legal opinion is also not regulatory authorisation.
In Saint Lucia, the government-owned IBC Registry’s FAQ states that forex business is not currently licensed locally. An incorporation package should therefore be budgeted as company formation, with separate legal review of the proposed activities and client markets.
For Seychelles, assess the relevant securities dealer route using the FSA’s application guidelines. For Mauritius, identify the applicable category within the FSC’s investment dealer framework. For Cyprus, define the investment services and permissions required. The list of CySEC authorised Cyprus investment firms can help verify a firm’s status; it is not an application guide.
Obtain separate figures for application fees, professional work, applicable local staffing and premises, audit, reporting and annual renewals. Record paid up capital and ongoing regulatory capital requirements separately. These are funding requirements, not fees paid away; operating losses may nevertheless reduce eligible capital and require further funding.
A Capital Example: Cyprus
Article 9 of the Investment Firms Directive sets initial capital tiers of €75,000, €150,000 and €750,000, depending on permissions. The lowest tier covers specified services only when firms cannot hold client money or securities; dealing on own account falls within the €750,000 tier. These are not prices for launching a brokerage.
The European Commission’s prudential overview also explains ongoing requirements linked to overheads and, where applicable, risk factors. Confirm the applicable category and continuing requirements before using a figure in your funding plan.
Hosting and Maintenance
An MT5 server hosting quote should identify the production, Access Server and backup and recovery resources included, along with locations, storage, network capacity and security services.
The MT4/MT5 maintenance scope should specify monitoring, updates, configuration work, backup checks, restore testing and incident response. Round the clock monitoring is not the same as round the clock engineering cover.
If hosting is bundled into maintenance, count it once. Record charges for additional servers, after-hours work and recovery testing separately where excluded.
Liquidity Provider and Bridge Costs
An LP quotation needs more than a minimum deposit: check commissions, spreads or markups, financing charges, monthly minimums and connectivity fees. Establish whether a minimum is credited against usage or charged in addition.
LP collateral supports trading exposure. Depositing collateral does not mean spending it, but losses, fees and withdrawal restrictions affect what can be recovered. Model margin calls as well as the opening deposit.
Adding providers may increase both fees and tied-up funding. Our single LP versus multi LP guide explains the operational trade offs.
Where a third party Bridge is selected, the broker contracts with its vendor for licensing. EBS can perform agreed integration work between MT5, the LP and the Bridge. Bridge product hosting, operation, maintenance and fault resolution are outside that integration scope. Check whether the selected platform native or Gateway route needs a separate product before budgeting for one.
CRM, KYC, Payments and Back Office
A CRM for forex brokers quote should identify client portal functions, MT5 integration, IB management, reporting and reconciliation. Confirm what triggers higher charges: staff seats, accounts, transactions or custom development.
Budget identity checks and ongoing screening separately from the software that manages the KYC workflow. Integration does not make vendor checks free.
For payment providers and electronic money institutions, check processing, currency conversion, settlement and chargeback fees. Rolling reserves and settlement delays affect available cash; they are not the same as processing expenses. Client funds must not be treated as unrestricted company funding.
Staffing and Compliance
The business still needs accountable people for compliance, risk, finance, customer support, dealing oversight, IT and management. Roles may be combined or outsourced where permitted, but technical outsourcing does not remove the broker’s obligations.
Include recruitment, employer costs, shift coverage, premises, professional services, marketing and IB remuneration where applicable. Use the broker operational checklist to identify responsibilities that still need an owner.
Build the First Year Budget
Define the period first. Twelve months from project commencement differs from twelve months after launch; the latter also needs a pre-launch budget.
First year cost budget = one-time project costs + recurring charges for the actual billing periods + annual and variable expenses not already included.
For an unchanged service billed throughout the year, recurring cost is monthly fee × 12. Annual prepayments are counted once, with their payment dates recorded separately. This is a planning model; accounting and tax treatment depend on the contract and applicable rules.
| Budget line | Calculation | Your amount |
|---|---|---|
| One time project costs | Sum of agreed deliverables | ___ |
| Fixed recurring charges | Each monthly fee × billable months | ___ |
| Annual expenses | Items not included above | ___ |
| Variable expenses | Expected usage × rate, adjusted for minimums | ___ |
| Other costs | Uncounted staffing, marketing, tax and other items | ___ |
| First year cost budget | Sum of the five lines above | ___ |
Next, build a monthly cash schedule covering regulatory capital, LP collateral, payment reserves, prepayments and a contingency buffer. Reconcile overlaps: paid up capital may already support eligible assets; a buffer may already cover forecast losses. Do not add the same funds twice or assume restricted assets can fund payroll.
The initial funding requirement comes from that schedule: enough committed funding to meet payments and capital and liquidity constraints when due. Test delayed launch, lower revenue and additional margin calls. Client deposits are not startup revenue.
What Does a Low Setup Quote Leave Out?
A lower quote may cover a narrower job. Ask each provider to complete the same comparison, then price the exclusions.
| Compare | Provider A | Provider B |
|---|---|---|
| Setup and launch testing | Scope / fee | Scope / fee |
| MT5 licence | Included / direct contract / extra | Included / direct contract / extra |
| Hosting and backup | Resources / exclusions | Resources / exclusions |
| LP connection and Bridge licence | Integration / vendor fees | Integration / vendor fees |
| CRM/back office | Features / extra charges | Features / extra charges |
| Maintenance and support | Hours / response / limits | Hours / response / limits |
| Legal and regulatory work | Scope / external fees | Scope / external fees |
| First-year cost | Same assumptions | Same assumptions |
Also compare billing start dates, minimum terms, renewal increases, taxes, exit assistance and data export. Mark unresolved items “unconfirmed,” not zero.
